Across &… — back to puzzles

Privacy

Effective November 1, 2026. This notice describes the Across &… public beta, an independent adult-humor crossword project.

Play without an account

No profile, login, name, or email address is required. Puzzle answers, completion history, highlight preferences, and joke rotation are saved in your browser’s local storage. They are not uploaded as a player profile. Clearing browser data removes them.

Optional audience counts

Only if you allow optional analytics, the application sends an edition code and an event type: page visit, return on a later day, first puzzle entry, completion, or completion using reveals. The server stores daily totals by edition and event. It does not store a player identifier, your entered letters, IP address, full URL, referrer, or user-agent in this analytics table. Counts are estimates, not verified unique people. Your browser keeps small local flags to reduce duplicate counting.

Optional analytics are off until you allow them. A Global Privacy Control signal also disables these optional counts. Change your choice at Privacy Choices. Already aggregated counts cannot be traced back to or removed for a particular player.

Feedback and contact

If you submit feedback, we store the edition, rating, optional comments, whether you would play again, submission time, a random submission ID, and a hashed deletion receipt. Please do not include private information. Submissions are visible to the site operator and hosting administrators, not published to other players. Save the receipt shown after submission to delete your feedback through Privacy Choices.

Hosting and security

The site runs through OpenAI Sites and Cloudflare infrastructure. Those providers necessarily process request information such as network addresses and may maintain operational or security logs under their own policies. Our application does not add advertising trackers, use browser fingerprinting, or sell submitted information. A network address may be held briefly in server memory to limit excessive submissions; the application does not write it to the feedback or analytics database.

Retention

Application analytics totals older than 90 days and feedback older than 180 days are deleted when their respective submission endpoints next run. Retention can therefore extend during inactivity. Infrastructure backups or logs may have separate provider retention. Browser storage stays until you clear it or the browser removes it.

Your choices and questions

Use Privacy Choices to turn optional counts off, clear local data, or delete a submission using its receipt. Use the privacy contact form for concerns. Without contact information or a receipt, we may be unable to identify a submission or reply personally. This beta is intended for adults 18 and older.

Changes

We will update the effective date and this notice when the site’s data practices change. Email subscriptions, ads, accounts, and payments are not active in this beta.
